In 1975 the URMIA Cement Company
was established for building cement factory with the nominal
capacity of 2300 tons per day in URMIA City. It was common
joint-stock and is invested by some of region’s people. Some
studies and land purchase for factory was done before
revolution. But basic
issues and executive activities of
URMIA Cement are developed after the Islamic Revolution.
In 1980 the Bank-i Sanat-o-Madan
(industry and mine bank) was recognized by the Council of
Economy as the main stock holder and the financial sponsor for
company, in the framework of important revolutionary plans.
Establishing buildings and utilities and the studies for
selecting machinery and internal planning was started in 1981.
Production line building and installing machines was begun in
1985. This was done by local contractors and domestic skilled
staff.
For the first time in Iran 50%
(weight) of parts and production machinery of cement plans were
made in our country.
URMIA
Cement Factory was started in the 11th anniversary of the
Islamic revolution’s victory (Feb 1991) with the
tentative production of clinker. In May 1991 the production was
started and cement was offered to home and foreign markets.
Until beginning production the
costs of building factory was reached about 14000 million rials
which 7140.11 million rilas of it is supplied by investment and
remainder is supplied by the financial facilities of Bank-i
Sanat-o-Madan. The foreign exchange used for factory was about
29 million dollars.
Until 1993 Bank-i Sanat-o-Madan and
Bank Sepah was the major stock holder of company. In that year
Social Security Organization and the Investment Company of
Social Security purchased the stocks of Bank-i Sanat-o-Madan and
beside Bank Sepah became the major share-holders of
Cement Company.
